Achieve Your Goals

Have you already given up on some of your new year goals? It’s easy to lose momentum a few months into the year. No matter if they are business or personal oriented, all achieved resolutions take hard work and patience. So how does one successfully persist in achieving a goal? Even better, how do we learn to thrive in uncharted territory?

One of my favorite songs is ‘Uncharted’ by Sara Bareilles and it says, “I won’t go as a passenger by waiting for the road to be laid…I am taking flame over burning out.” This has always resonated with me, long before becoming an entrepreneur! Only you can set your goals and pave the way to achieve them. You are not along for the ride, you are driving on a brand new path all your own. So, before you do anything, make sure to set goals that you are passionate about so you don’t let them burn out when it gets hard.

Jess and I do this for our own business every year. At the start of each quarter, We set new goals and re-evaluate current goals. I am going to be honest when I tell you our goals are ALWAYS larger than life. At least they seem that way when we set them. Yet, we are always excited and passionate about making them happen. This brings me to my next point.

Lay out a step-by-step plan to the end goal. In the same song mentioned above, another line says “Compare where you are to where you want to be and you’ll get nowhere.” You can’t reach a goal by comparing where you are now and where you want to be. There needs to be an actionable plan that you can check off line items along the way. This keeps you productive towards the goal and helps you see the finish line. A step-by-step plan also helps you look back once you achieve said goal to see how you got there. Then you can evaluate the things you did right and the mistakes you made along the way.

Our business is always a shinier, newer version of itself by the end of the year because of our big goals. We love looking back on each year saying “Remember when we used to do this? We do things so differently now!” It’s always for the best. Without laying out the steps in each quarter to get to the end, this would be a lot harder for us to do.

So don’t let big goals scare you! Pave the way and dream big. Nothing is more fulfilling than knowing you can achieve anything you want when you really work for it. Here’s to getting back on track for another successful year!
